Answers to Common Questions

Whether you’re new to psychiatric care or just exploring your options, it’s natural to have questions.
Here are some of the most common things people ask before getting started.
If you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out — I’m happy to help.

Do you offer therapy?
Yes. I offer brief, supportive therapy as part of your psychiatric care — focused on helping you feel heard, grounded, and equipped with tools to navigate life. For long-term or specialized psychotherapy, I can help you connect with the right provider.
No. At this time, Camina Mental Health is for adults 18 and over.
A PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner) is a licensed provider who can diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe medications, and provide treatment — similar to a psychiatrist. PMHNPs come from a nursing background, with a strong foundation in patient-centered, holistic care. Psychiatrists are medical doctors (MDs) with a medical model approach. Both can provide psychiatric treatment.
I provide outpatient psychiatric care, but I do not provide emergency or inpatient services. In rare situations that require a higher level of care or certain legal evaluations, I may refer you to another provider. We’ll talk about any referrals together, with full transparency and care.
Yes. Medications may be part of your treatment plan if they align with your goals and needs. I approach medication as a tool — not a one-size-fits-all solution — and always take time to explain your options and involve you in decisions.

Absolutely — I welcome communication between sessions. That said, changes to your care (like medication adjustments or form completion) must happen during scheduled visits. I am not an emergency provider, but I strive to be responsive and supportive within clear boundaries.

What’s the difference between a no-show and a late cancellation?

Yes — but all forms, documentation, and lab reviews must be completed during appointments.
Yes. Your privacy and confidentiality are extremely important to me. All sessions are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. Your personal health information is protected and will never be shared without your explicit consent, except in rare situations where required by law for safety.
All appointments take place via a secure video platform you can access from your phone, tablet, or computer. You’ll receive a link before each session — no downloads needed. Just make sure you’re in a quiet, private space with a good internet connection.
We accept major credit/debit cards and HSA/FSA cards. Payment is collected securely through the patient portal at the time of service. We are in-network with Aetna and Cigna, and can provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement if you’re using another plan.
Yes. I offer a free 15-minute consultation for new clients. This is a casual, no-pressure phone or video call where you can:
  • Ask general questions about how I work
  • Learn what to expect from psychiatric care
  • Decide whether it feels like the right fit for you
Please note: This is not a clinical appointment. No diagnoses, prescriptions, or treatment decisions will be made during this time. It’s simply an opportunity to connect and get a sense of whether we’d work well together.
